Fitness For Life

Institutional HLAC 1096 Lifelong Wellness

Lifelong Wellness Reflection

Lifelong wellness is an everyday task to make better health decisions that will impact your choice, life, and health. Fitness for Life has taught me how to set goals on exercise. It has taught me to make healthier eating decisions and the impact that when I do not receive the nutrients I need what could happen. We may not think that exercise and our eating habits effect our life right now, but eventually those choices could lead us to serious health problems later.
The connections I made through learning about lifelong wellness has led me to keep a better schedule and stick to it to make sure that I can accomplish my exercise, coursework, and my job. I can also see that making sure that my stress is controlled I can better take tests in my Lifespan Human Development course. I also found that my Lifespan Human Development and Fitness for Life had similar ideas on maintaining health, stress and exercise and the impact it has in your life. Both classes worked hand in hand on helping me remember certain material. My Essentials of College Study showed me examples of how to make the schedule I followed to keep my important tasks lists and to follow through with them.
Before I had taken Fitness for Life, I knew that eating habits were important. I just didn’t consider how my eating habits would affect my health later. I kept telling myself that I would try to eat better later. Now, I know that I really do need to change my eating habits to prevent problems in the future. I have learned the impact that artificial sugar has on your body. The most eye opening assignment was our nutritional analysis of our regular eating habits. After seeing how much saturated fat I eat on a normal basis, I will be changing my eating habits. Also, choosing to eat health makes your body feel better and can prevent from colds and illness. I think we all can agree that no one really wants to get sick.
I will apply the information that I learned from this class by trying to drink more water by carrying a water bottle around with me. I will eat more fruit, vegetables, and dairy. I need to cut back on cola drinks. I also will continue my exercise of working out 5 days a week. I will continue to set goals for my wellness and celebrate in a meaningful way. That way I can continue to gain more muscle and become stronger.
My general ideas for improving this class is to possibly have students do an additional nutritional analysis where we are purposefully trying to eat healthy. That way we can see the difference between our two-day nutritional analysis of regular eating and a week analysis of eating health. Then, possibly, doing a compare and contrast paper about how eating the proper amounts for our dietary goals made us feel. This course really helped me understand the impact of the choices I make for my health. It was a great class and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend any new college study to talking this class and challenging themselves to better their lifelong wellness.
